Why I Will Get up at 5 AM…Tomorrow

After yesterday’s particularly strange events…

I’d consumed a caffeine supplement mid-afternoon {mistake} which left me wired and focused to the point that I stayed up until 5:45 AM.  Two hours of sleep and then the potty overflows. Two inches of water and ten sopping wet towels (that I washed in super hot water and promptly forgot about them in the washer). Cue second load of the same towels.

I managed to stay up and cook the fabulous burgers Justin had pre-formed the night before. The incredible aroma as they hit the hot pan was amazing. With my belly full of warm cheeseburgers (yup, two), I let the boys watch TV and I crashed. Interrupted with little boy tattles, I went in and out of dream-sleep.

I did manage to load the dishwasher, but the day was shot.

In response, I got on Facebook and posted in a group for female entrepreneurs. I was searching for other moms who felt the weight of stay-at-home responsibilities coupled with being the full-time sole business owner/entrepreneur.

As I was wrapped with support and other moms experiencing similar days, one woman shared a link to one of her blog posts. I’ll ashamedly admit, I don’t read a lot of blogs, but her post “Why I Get Up at 4 AM” hit my pain point. I was tired of staying up late and being a wreck the next day when my kids and business needed me to thrive.

Best. Post. Ever.

It hit me exactly where I needed it to…and it produced a renewed desire within my heart. This morning, I woke up with Justin, laid in bed for an extra 20 minutes, then rolled off the mattress. With the house deliciously dark, I grabbed my blanket (softest blanket in the world), my laptop, planner, and coffee. I curled up on the couch and drank in the silence. And the peppermint mocha coffee.

It’s been a fabulous morning. The boys woke up around 7 and were surprised to see me. Or maybe they were confused. “Is it morning or midnight?” my nine-year-old asked.

My little bit snuggled up on the couch next to me and fell asleep. The nine-year-old grabbed his comforter and curled up on the floor. My middle boy was already fast asleep in our bed. The house was still dark and my children slept while I started my day.

Fabulous.

Jealous of the quiet time that has now turned into the hum of our day, I plan on getting up at 5 AM tomorrow.
