Mr. Darcy.

My desire to emulate Meg Ryan in the romantic comedy “You’ve Got Mail” prompted me to read Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice. I wanted to “get lost in the language” and perhaps start a tradition of reading it once a year.

I immediately fell in love with Elizabeth Bennett while simultaneously being annoyed at her sister Jane’s perfect sweetness, amused by their mother’s obsession over her poor nerves, deliciously repulsed by Mr. Collins, and madly crushed on Mr. Darcy–the most perfect man to ever come to life on the pages of a book.

The six-hour film adaptation is my favorite, although I thank the Keira Knightly’s version for opening the story to a larger audience.

While we were dating, Justin watched the six-hour version with me in exchange for me watching Top Gun and Die Hard. Apparently I wasn’t a true American until I saw those movies.

For our anniversary, or a birthday, or Christmas…who knows…Justin bought me the six-hour version DVD set along with a brand new DVD player. Considering this was almost 12 years ago, before Blu-Ray, this was an AMAZING present.

When I was sick, Pride and Prejudice.

While I was exhausted from pregnancy, Pride and Prejudice.

Instead of reading it annually, I watched it every year.

Until I let someone borrow it and can’t for the life of me remember who. My precious DVD set, more special since it was a gift from our dating days, is gone.

But great tidings have brought me great joy in the form of a Facebook link shared by a wonderful friend.

A 200th anniversary keepsake edition of the six-hour version in a couple of weeks!!!
