[guestpost]This is not a health & fitness blog, but when I saw the #Write31Days Challenge, I knew I wanted to pick a topic that I struggled with. In order to lead a Brilliant Life, the stress-eating has to stop. Welcome to the 31 Days to Stop Binge-Eating collection. Glad you’re here! #LiveBrilliant[/guestpost] It’s Day 3 of the #Write31Days Challenge. I wasn’t expecting to feel accountable about binge-eating but I was thinking about what I had to write while I was reaching for the snack bag. Big win – I did not eat the entire bag of caramel cremes, my current candy nemesis.
Planning
I spent ten hours in the car on a road trip with my kids and we loaded up on snacks. Instead of eating fast food, we packed chips, waters, pop tarts, crackers, and sandwiches: turkey and veggie cheese on honey wheat for me, turkey and real cheese for boy #1, PB&J for boy #2, and jam only for boy #3.
In the candy bag were Twizzlers, a road trip necessity in our family, and caramel cremes. Ooh la la. And Sugar-Free Monster energy drinks, which is a new thing for me but really worked.
I ate more of the caramel cremes than I probably should have, but when you’re driving long highway stretches boredom takes over and I wanted to snack.
For dinner we went through a drive thru because #easy. #fast. #nevertastesasgoodasyouthinkitwill
Curbing Temptation
It’s currently 9:35 PM and I am wanting to snack. I know it’s because I’m tired and thirsty so I’m not going to give in. Looking back on the car ride, I’m actually proud of myself for two things:
- Limiting the Twizzlers to five. Total. For the whole ride.
- Eating caramel cremes only a few at a time.
Instead of keeping the bags near me, I followed the “How Not to Eat an Entire Bag of Chips” rule and only took a few at a time. I felt satisfied and didn’t really overdo it. I feel no need to binge eat because I didn’t deny myself. That’s the next step though – learning to say no to things. I tend to eat what I want because I can…and that’s the next step on this journey.
Next Steps
Justin and I are still discussing our gym membership options, which got me thinking on my long drive about other options. Babe – I’m moving out the desk and dragging the weigh bench inside the house. (Let’s see if he actually keeps up on my blogging!) haha!
Seriously though, I’d LOVE to have a treadmill again. Anyone got any suggestions? Ideally it would be easy to store if necessary.
[reminder]What’s your go-to snack for road trips?[/reminder]
Chocolate and slim jims 😉
Though I’ve been good the past few years by buying bananas to eat at the gas stations instead of candy bars. . . .
